Burpin Ron’s Burger and Shake Bar

This is a new start business based in Winchester city centre and, as the name suggests, will be serving tasty burgers, shakes and other delights in the most eco-friendly way possible.

The Problem

Nordine Zaa of soon-to-open Burpin Rons Burger and Shake Bar, Winchester, wanted to start his business in the best possible way by using the most environmentally friendly products and methods.

He soon realised that he needed specialist advice to understand his various options before making his investment.

Solution and Outcome

Winchester City Council contracted procurement specialists Beyond Procurement to engage with Winchester district businesses and help them access and apply for regional grant assistance.

The project also helps businesses identify solutions to reduce their carbon emissions and energy consumption.

Crispin Sykes from Beyond Procurement discussed the options available with the client for adopting new technologies such as electric mopeds to do their deliveries and air fryers in the kitchen. Nordine then registered for the LoCASE grant to help purchase two electric mopeds for their Deliveries.

It is anticipated that the mopeds will travel on average 80 miles per day for every day of the year and by using electric rather than petrol vehicles, the business will save approximately £7,000 and reduce their CO2e emissions by 95% or 13.5 tonnes per annum.
